Davide Monaldi, classe 1983, è un artista nato a San Benedetto del Tronto (AP) che oggi vive e lavora a Milano. Rispettando l’antica tradizione artigiana italiana, Davide Monaldi predilige la lavorazione e la modellazione della ceramica, un materiale che richiede periodi molto lunghi per la realizzazione delle sculture finali.
Ogni lavoro racconta un frammento della sua vita, e del proprio mondo interiore, con nubilosa ironia.
La scelta di ereditare un materiale anticonvenzionale nel mondo dell’arte contemporaneo, ovvero la ceramica, è dettata dall’esigenza dell’artista di trovare un punto di incontro tra pittura e scultura per poter dare vita a capolavori di iperrealismo. Davide Monaldi, infatti, riproduce spesso gli oggetti della quotidianità, nonché ricordi di vita (elastici, hula-hoops, trucioli, chiavi…), nel tentativo di fissarli per sempre in una simulazione che possa conferire nuovo valore al banale e all’ordinario.
“Carta da parati” è un lavoro singolare e complesso; risultato di, oltre che una forte laboriosità, anche di una minimalistica attenzione al dettaglio.
La rappresentazione finale ritrae il momento in cui una vecchia carta da parati si stacca dal muro, formando nel tratto finale dei riccioli.
Alla base di quest’opera troviamo l’abbinamento della cura artigianale alla macchinosità industriale: mentre i riccioli sono stati realizzati dalla meticolosità, dalla precisione e dalla delicatezza delle mani di Davide Monaldi, l’effetto della carta da parati ancora aderente al muro è stato ricavato attraverso la produzione industriale di piastrelle di ceramica della stessa lunghezza (33,3 x 50 x 0,5 cm).
La decorazione sovrastante è stata applicata attraverso un rullo che imprime lo stesso motivo floreale. Centrale in questo lavoro è il binomio tra scostante ed espressivo, macchinoso e umano, standardizzato e imperfetto il quale riporta in vita, fissandolo nel tempo, un ricordo d’infanzia dell’artista e della sua personale storia.

Respecting the ancient tradition of Italian craftsmanship, Davide Monaldi prefers working and modelling ceramic, a material that requires long periods of time to create the final sculptures. Each work recounts a piece of his life, and of his own inner world, with cloudy irony.
The decision to inherit an unconventional material in the contemporary art world, namely ceramics, is dictated by the artist’s need to find a meeting point between painting and sculpture in order to create masterpieces of hyperrealism.
Davide Monaldi often reproduces everyday objects and life memories (rubber bands, hula-hoops, shavings, keys…) in an attempt to fix them forever in a simulation that can give new value to the banal and ordinary.
“Carta da parati” (“Wallpaper”) is a singular and complex work, the result of not only great industriousness, but also a minimalistic attention to detail.
The final representation depicts the moment when an old wallpaper comes off the wall, forming curls in the final stretch.
At the basis of this work, we find the combination of craftsmanship and industrial complexity: while the curls were created by the meticulousness, precision and delicacy of Davide Monaldi’s hands, the effect of the wallpaper still adhering to the wall was obtained through the industrial production of ceramic tiles of the same length (33.3 x 50 x 0.5 cm).
The overlying decoration was applied through a roller imprinting the same floral motif. Central to this work is the combination of the standoffish and the expressive, the machinic and the human, the standardised and the imperfect, which brings back to life, fixing it in time, a childhood memory of the artist and his personal history.
